Odi was caught from the wild as a cub in 1993. She was kept on a farm in a cage which measured only 1.5 metres by 2 metres and she lived there for 12 years surviving on a diet almost solely consisting of maize. Her cage had no protection from the extremes of the winter snow or the summer heat. She was brought into the sanctuary in August 2005 and spent her first winter sleeping in a deep bed of hay in a quarantine den.
In October 2006 Odi was released into the main forest enclosure and quickly got used to the other bears. She spends a lot of time high in the trees and in the summer heat she is often seen swimming in the pool with other bears. Odi can usually be identified from a distance as she has dark fur patches around her eyes.
